Waiting for the sun - haiku

slivers of sunlight
melt snow into springs, dancing,
warbling light

calling, calling forth
sleeping kowhai buds
pastor bird

the buds must know
when to burst forth and blossom
quench thirsty throats

spring stirs lazy
in the sleeping earth’s loins
waiting for the sun
